Controlled dye amounts

Mixed with printing paste
First layer
2nd layer
3rd layer and dried ready to wrap and steam
I took a14” square of dyed silk ready to felt and make a shrinkage swatch
2 layers of 14.5 micron merino and wet down and felted resulted in 12”x 12” square
As you can see here the depth of colour has not been maintained after steaming and felting.

I overpainted this sample with the neat inks and will heat set.

This may be a case in point to use these inks as in silk painting rather than mixing with screen printing paste.

We now need to calculate our shrinkage in the sample and then the amount we increase our template to enable us to return to the measurement needed.
